Well.. My stance on violence in games.

I believe that if you are old enough to see it as a game, then you can honestly live without fear of it corrupting you. Besides, GTA has ALWAYS been controversial.. *points to the whole Jack Thompson incident*

Kids will mimic whatever they see regardless of censorship.. I say, you should not be able to display the game in public shelves. Sure, advertise it, but make it something you have to ask the employees for. It'll be informing in a way to parents who buy games for their kids. If they hear that the game is not in public shelves, they'll ask questions why. If you're old enough, don't even worry about it.

Hell, violence is EVERYWHERE. Tom and Jerry, the Simpsons, those dudes in the news, boxing.. etc. If you ban a game for violence, prepare yourself for a riot. You can't deny the masses.

As for the whole depressing news always on TV.. They parodied it on Family Guy. "Coming up, two children build a beautiful dollhouse! And afterwards, the massacre of a couple!.. etc"

I never realized it as a kid, but Tom and Jerry was perhaps the most violent show I've watched growing up till the age of 12... Sure, there was a lack of blood, but those same moves are used in anime to torture people... Ironing the skin, electric shock, etc...

I've loved the old Tom and Jerry cartoons. I also tried to realize the reason why there was a black lady in the old cartoons and in the new ones there isn't one. :?

Anyways, my viewpoint on GTA IV. First off, it's a great game. Huge franchise, huge business, making lots of money. As my point on violence goes, I don't think they should ban violence in games. For the parents who don't like the game, don't buy it. Simple as that. I just hate the fact that some parents are hypocrites because they hate the game for its use of violence and whatnot, and they buy their children the game, saying it's "corrupting them".

The game is a game, not a training simulator. People are making a huge deal out of the fact that you can have sex with a prostitute then kill her after *I prefer setting her ablaze on the game :P *. As long as you don't try actually something from the game in real life, you're good. We live in an idiotic society and we're always trying to find someone to blame.

This whole MADD *Mothers Against Drunk Driving* and other activists just only make the game much more interesting to buy because it is recieving huges amount of attention. If you don't want the game to sell, don't show any attention to it.

I'm done rambling on.

Just because violence in this sense exists doesn't mean they have to exploit it to the level they do. You know how many times within the last couple months I've had to sell these games to kids ranging from 5 to 9 because the parents didn't care? It doesn't have sex (as if they bothered to look at the rating properly  ) so they don't care. Call me a prude if you want but in no way would I buy this for my nephew who just turned 7 and still loves his Thomas the Tank Engine!

I understand where you're coming from. I'm just saying people are idiots for buying the game for their kids, and then making a big deal out of it. I wish I could play it though, I still have a PS2 *not that I'm bagging on it, I still love it*, so I won't be able to play it to see for myself.

BTW, I'm Geo. Nice to meet you, Chicken.

Kind of the same thing our Dad said to us when me and Geo got Conker's Bad Fur Day...

"Hey, uh, does this game use swear words?" (AFTER he had bought us it.. xD)
"Nah, it does, but they don't say the words. It bleeps it out."
"Oh, ok."

*fast-foward a couple of years...*

He STILL hasn't gave us back the damn game.. >_>

Yeah, same with Vice City, only it involved the polygonal strip club. This was with Jamie though.

"This game is pretty cool. It's got boats and strip clubs"
*Ears perk up* "Strip clubs?"

We got that one though.

I miss Conker's Bad Fur Day too...

Nahh, it was more like this:

"Hey wanna play VC? It's got racing and strip clubs."
"Excuse me, but if you're going to play that, you can't go to those."

xD

Yea, I remember that now. We didn't even play that, they took the game away because of that.

A more violent game in terms of blood and gore is Manhunt 2. It's an awesome game, never played it though *I might buy it when I get the chance*.

Zid knows more about the Wii version of this game.

Yeah Manhunt 2 was banned for the Wii. (Still might be, not sure though..)

Reasons? As a tribute to MegaDeth... 99 Ways to Die. Seriously, you could strangle a guy with your prison pants.

Banned because it was considered a "controversial mass-murder simulator".

Kind of how the original Doom and Doom 2 were rated.

In terms of violence, Manhunt 2 beats GTA IV hands-down. In terms of commercialism, GTA IV is the clear winner.

I thought the rating dropped to K-A, not banned? :?

One death I like though is that you're able to rip out the guys spine and strangle him with it.

Yeah K-A. But people weren't gonna have THAT. So thus the ban. (Or simply porting it to another system. xD)

I hope the PS2 version of it isn't watered-down like Rock Band. I want the full experience those guys with the PS3 and XB360 have.

Banning games is retarded, it's one thing to reduce the violence level, but to ban the game altogether sounds pretty stupid.
