I knew it! First time I saw the news I was so freaking happy, can't wait to see what he'll do!

His mid name is Husein...

I must say he gives rather powerful speeches...

McCain's speech as he left was very gracious as well. He's a good man. Wish the whole election process didn't feel like a reality show though...

Who cares what his name is?

The speech Bush gave to congratulate Obama... Was it just me or did he have a bad hair day? No sleep? The rain? WTF happened? I know the presidency can put a lot of stress on you but damn...

Here's how I look at it. Politicians say a lot of crap to get elected. No matter who went into office, taxes would be raised. In the end, it's not just their word that gets passed at laws. I do hope people realize that bills are written in the in the Senate and House of Reps... When's the last time you voters voted for one of those seats? The President just signs off on them. And proposes new policies. Unless he has a strong voice amongst his peers, he won't be backed up. However, I think it's important that each branch of government be split in both parties. Because when you have it run by just one mindset, without task conflict, things tend to be less productive.

Take group work with classmates for example. If everyone agrees to what one person says and doesn't counter, the group is more likely to fail - assuming their leader isn't a pure genius with the capability of 100 people. Most productive groups come from groups with different views, different values, and different ways of doing things.

That's one thing...The government is composed of many people of differing views. So many act as though everything is Bush's fault, and don't get me wrong, I'm not a Bush fan, but he is only a part of the government, the one people tend to focus on. The only time I would really worry about it is if the president ever tried to become dictatorial, then something needs to be done. Otherwise there is congress and the supreme court to help balance things out and he has no more than eight years to try to fix and potentially screw things up. Personally I take voting for the senate and house as serious as the presidential vote!

OKAY...

i was for Obama. my only problem is that the people of the U.S. don't hope for change in a matter of a few years, which they will. Bush has put the U.S. in such debt. he hasn't really done anything well. Obama has a huge hole to fill. it'll take longer than just a few years.

The problem with pulling out of Iraq abruptly is that once you do, the old regimes will try to take over again, making the Middle East go into another chaotic stage. There will be more deaths. The US is sort of responsible for this and has to stay there long enough to let them get a solid foundation first.

Well, I think you will need a few generations before that happens. The attacks from the US on their homeland are still pretty fresh in their minds and it won't exactly go away within the next decade or so...

Basically we dug our own hole on the international stage level... -__-

Obama's plan for the Iraq War was to get the troops out in 6-12 months. McCain's plan was much longer. i coulda swore he wanted to keep them there actually. but, whatever.

i think Obama's right though. take em out already! we're wasting time and money keepin' them there for no true reason.

Phoenix is probably right. it'll probably get back to how it was before, with the old regimes taking over and there being no government whatsoever. but, hey, we wasted so many years there trying to fix something we couldn't fix.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. but, here's a new one. if i can't be fixed, don't fix it.

the threat of us being attacked is a little ludicrous to me. there has been NO evidence that shows that people from the Middle East attacked us. we only thought it was them because they had "weapons of mass destruction."

But if you pull out all at once you have the terrorists thinking they won and pushed us out. That is part of the issue of bringing back the troops. And there are always a lot of shouldas and couldas. Coulda finished off Sadam the first time, shoulda finished off Obama when Clinton had the chance...the list goes on, but now we have to deal with what is and what will save the most lives in the long run.

By that assumption, then the United States and the UN Central Command should have pulled out of South Korea in 1953, and told the South to fend for themselves. The South would have been overrun by the North Koreans in a few years, and this entire penninsula would have been under the "loving guidance" of the Great Leader.

Instead, we've been here for over 50 years, pretty much giving the South Koreans free military defense, which in turn allowed them to spend the past 40 years building up their economy to what it is today.

Although Obama says he wants to pull everyone out of Iraq, did it occur to you that he may decide to station troops (once again) in places like Kuwait and Turkey? For us to be there in case "something happens"? We've had bases in those countries for well over a decade, and I have a feeling we'll be back to doing a Operation Northern Watch/Southern Watch-type mission, trying to watch over not just Iraq but all the Middle East.

And don't forget Bahrain and Qatar. We've got bases there as well, and considering how much money we've poured into them, as well as the bilateral relationships we have with those countries, they won't be going away anytime soon.

So while you may be jumping for joy that troops are getting pulled out of Iraq, we'll still have a presence in the Middle East so we can be ready for the next "big contingency" that is waiting in the wings....

another reason we're staying in the Middle East is for us to stay being allies. then, we can keep our deals we have with them for oil. that's probably one of the biggest reasons we're there. that's the more reason why we should have alternate fuel emissions.

Obama will keep a few toops in the Middle East for safety reasons. but, no troops that are forced to be there. just the troops that signed up for the military and whatnot.

and i honestly feel this way. i realize that we destroyed a lot of the Middle East and we've spent a lot of money to rebuild what we've done because of our search of "weapons of mass destruction." we've rebuilt a lot of it.

BUT, let's face it. there's no hope for those countires of the Middle East. LET THEM DEAL WITH THEIR PROBLEMS. i honestly feel this way. we're wasting TOO MUCH FREAKIN' MONEY. use it on other problems.
