I agree! That was my point exactly. As far as not taking it personally when someone calls me something profane or inappropriate: It depends on how well you know me, but my closest friends don't call me such things nor I them. If they are being complete idiots I tell them in such terms. If I want to piss them off, I have much better ways than spewing a bunch of words that they can dismiss offhand as just a tantrum. I've gotten doors slammed in my face without the use of one cuss word. The last time someone called me something inappropriate happened to be while there were customers around, I reported him and between a couple of us doing such, he no longer works there. Not only is it inappropriate to call someone a "greedy bitch" jokingly when you don't really know them well to begin with, to do so with others around your place of work while still in uniform is inexcusable. Subtlety is great! I tend to be sarcastic and sometimes people don't get it, but one of my supervisors is so good at it people smile as they walk away before it even hits them they've been insulted! If you want to sound like you've got Turret's Syndrome when you don't, just consider how many other people have to hear it and don't want to...only you or close friends or other people already talking that way? Have at! That is what I mean.

Damn Blue Gender for flaking out of this argument... I made this thread specifically for him... He's been on every thread ranting except for this one...

Yes there is a difference between using a word for name calling and using the same word as a totally inappropriate substitute for another word. There's a place and time for everything. If you incorporate an obvious negative word into your everyday language, it may lose its value as a word of profanity for you, but the rest of society might not feel the same.

in this World We Have to live with Racism and Criticism and Stereotypes and Other problems!!

we just cant say "no More Hatred to people" and we push a button and there goes it. the problem I been seeing it's actually the Mother how Tells the family at home like "look at those Commi's" on Tv or they see a person on the TV is bald and people starting thinking "its a Skin head" or when you see a gang of africans " some people pick up a phone and call the police or When a person is Handicapped people tend to be "ill headed" and stand in front of them and want move. What about a guy holding hands What about a female's holding each other by the side!! This is the problem people can but it takes time to get it out of its system.

Blue Gender is a flake, neh? xD

Exactly right Demons, people assume the worst when they see people.. My dad once shaved his head and people thought he was a skinhead..

I could care less how society feels about me. Thats not to say that I dont take care of myself though..

Yes, I'd try to provoke him to post here, but seeing as I already can track his IP movements through the entire forum, I know he's just playing hard to get. I could care less whether or not he cares to read this area.

His rationality after trying to open up a thread in an inappropriate area is to "Fight the Power..."

I can only laugh at his feeble attempts under my domain...

Racism and stereotypes comes in the form of television as well. I watched part of an interesting episode of the Tyra Banks Show the other day where she did a social experiment with teenagers of the ages 13-16. They had tasks given to them where they had to separate the group of 5 girls and 5 guys into roles.

Long story short, all the black kids were seen as potential criminals, the girl with the most makeup a whore, and the fat girl the outcasted one as a homeless person. They didn't find out one of the kids were gay until they had to pair up as "couples." The one who ended up pairing with him was the more liberal girl without a religion. The one seen as a whore paired with the one said to possibly have political potential due to his strong religious belief, southern accent, and the fact he was white. See how these demos mirror society? (Thinks of all the political news about adultery these past 6 months.) The fat girl was rejected by all the guys and was paired with the quiet short kid.

Kids are so mean and judge so fast these days. I do hope they grow up there's more to life than comparing designer clothes and picking on the minorities.

EDIT

Yesterday marked the anniversary of 9/11. At the time, before the faces of the terrorists were splashed all over the news, there was a short period of time where no one cared what race, color, gender, or sexual preference you were. If you saw a 10 story-high cloud of dust coming towards you, you ran out of there, helping anyone that had fallen or lagged behind. After the faces were splashed all over the news, hatred towards a specific skin color came about again. I couldn't help but get quiet when I watched for about 1/2 an hour of some of the names of the people lost on live news.

The New York skyline really does look barren without those towers... I can't even spot Manhattan anymore... Was always bad with directions...

Wow, Blue playing hard-to-get? xD

So you mean the teens had to classify the kids?
And that is messed up that people judge them.. But another question

Were they given categories to classify them in, like "Politician, Criminal" etc.. Or did they judge based on their opinion?

Ah 9/11.. The event that didn't much effect me at my age and location.. The only thing I remember is the whole hatred towards arabs.. I watched the news (In my english class) interview a 10 year-old kid two days after 9/11 had happened. It was supposed to get his opinion and such. But the kid sounded VERY educated for his age. "I quote Einstein in saying.." "Are we reverting back to our caveman ways?" "America should deliver justice onto these people.." and my personal favorite, "I can't look at the camera, I'm about to cry." (Since when did kids care who saw them cry? o_O)

Yeah I agree with that kid, but I feel he didnt sound geniune..

Yeah, the kids were given these categories... Who the hell would settle for being the homeless person?

Well you can imagine 9/11 affected my area... I live in that area... For the first time in EVER, my family put up the American flag after that happened. I mean what the hell, they were civilians...

I remember I was in my Sophomore year of High School and as I was walking to my English class, one of my stoner friends went up to me with that weird dazed smile of hers and said "The Twin Towers got hit by a plane." Since it was she was smiling weirdly and known to be stoned half the time, I figured she was joking. Turns out she wasn't. My English teacher confirmed it and that day, everyone was frantically calling their parents on their phone to pick them up. The public bus we rode home just quickly told us to get on and not bother paying. My daily episode of Dragon Ball Z was not being watched as my mom kept the channel on the news showing the planes hitting the tower over and over again...

My aunt actually worked in one of the Towers and on that day, she was the witness to my other aunt's marriage permit signing thing... So she wasn't at work... But she knew the people inside... And one of my old teachers whom I adored lost her 20-something year old daughter who had just started her job at one of the Towers... She now walks around with a blank stare in her eyes... So yeah... You can imagine the flag sales increase definitely happened here in NY.

Wow.. Thats really sad.. Thank goodness your aunt wasnt there huh?

And back to the category thing.. Tyra was ASKING for something to be started.. I mean what would YOU do if you were left with "Criminal" and "Homeless"? Certainly cant throw away the cards (Or whatever it was)..

Thus the term, SOCIAL EXPERIMENT...

If you gave the same task to educated adults, I'm sure they wouldn't give the same responses these kids gave. I bet you adults would have randomly raffled off the positions rather than choose based on skin color, race, ethnicity, etc...

The kids (13-16) couldn't think of that random raffling idea. I, as a 22 year old person, just did. Why is that?

Because the kids are introduced into stereotypes at early ages, most likely. Hell, there are some adults that would say there's nothing wrong with the kids' judgement as far as they're concerned.

And btw.. What the hell happened to Andy's avatar? xD

LMAO, his face got funny...

That was the point of the social experiment. To show how fast kids are to judge other people... I wasn't able to watch the whole thing, primarily the part where the parents got to speak their mind about watching their kids do this. For the parts I did see, the African American parents were saying how they knew it would happen since they'd get followed around in stores and stuff.

Now here's the question. Who TEACHES the kids to stereotype? Parents, TV, or friends? They all serve an important role, but who's the FIRST to teach? Parents I assume...

The one fat white girl in the experiment was explaining how she'd never marry a black man because she has family members that threatened to disown her if that had ever happened...

Oh wow. That's just (for lack of a better word..) screwed up right there. Personally, I think its TV that teaches the kids. They joke with the stereotypes, but kids take it very seriously and thus judge others.

And if I were ever threatened like that, I'd disown my family myself, not vice versa. If they cant deal with something as simple as skin color, fuck it.
